The Želiezovce Triangle of Famous Names
Experience the atmosphere of the summer residence – the Esterházy Manor House and its English park with old and rare trees. Nearby, the Owl Chateau houses the Town Museum with the Franz Schubert Memorial Room; Schubert worked here as a music teacher for the Esterházy family in 1818 and 1824. The imagined Želiezovce triangle of famous names is completed by the birthplace of Eduard Sacher, founder of the Hotel Sacher in Vienna. His father, Franz Sacher, creator of the world-famous Sacher torte, once headed the kitchen at the local manor house. He lived nearby in the Sacher House, which has been restored based on period photographs.

In the Esterházy family crypt most family members are buried, with one exception – Count János Károly Esterházy, whose heart rests in the crypt beside his wife’s, while his body found its final resting place elsewhere.
The interior of the seemingly architecturally simple building – the Catholic Church of St. James the Apostle – is adorned with precious murals: preserved 14th-century Italian frescoes, as well as a 2nd-century Roman sarcophagus.
